Council Members
WHEREAS, at the 2004 Session of the Georgia General Assembly, our local

legislative delegation to the Assembly supervised the passage of legislation

known as House Bill 709 which authorizes a referendum for an additional

one-cent local option sales tax (LOST) in certain consolidated governments;



WHEREAS, this legislation will allow an important referendum to take place in

Columbus concerning the use of the LOST proceeds for funding various aspects of

consolidated government operations;



WHEREAS, this effort by our local legislative delegation is worthy of special

recognition by this Council.



NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:



We hereby express our deep appreciation to State Senators Seth Harp, Ed

Harbison, George Crooks and State Representatives Thomas B. Buck, III, Calvin

Smyre, Carolyn Hugley, Debbie Buckner and Vance C. Smith, Jr. for their efforts

in securing passage of House Bill 709 at the 2004 Session of the Georgia

General Assembly. Let a copy of this resolution be forwarded to each

member of our local legislative delegation to the Georgia General Assembly.
