The Elections and Voter Registration Board meeting was held Thursday, July 3,
2003 at 2:00 p.m.

The Vice-Chairperson called the meeting to order with the Chairperson, Mrs.
Janice Dickens conferenced via telephone.
Motion was made and seconded to accept the June board minutes as amended. Vote
unanimous.
NEW BUSINESS:
Special Election: The school board has adopted a resolution asking the board
of elections to call for a special election on September 16, 2003 for special
local option sales tax. Ken Barfield made a motion to accept the school
board?s request for a special election, and issue the call for the election to
be held September 16, 2003. Motion was seconded by Eleanor White. Vote was
unanimous.
Voting Equipment: Nancy advised the board that Diebold has proposed to assist
us in preparation for the election. They are offering two levels of support,
level 1 and level 2. Both levels will consist of printing the ballots, do the
logic and accuracy testing, data base prep, and have support on the day before
the election, election day and the day after the election is held. The cost of
the whole package is $12,650. Nancy stated that we can pick and choose what
level of support we want to receive. Ken Barfield made a motion that the
Diebold proposal be accepted and to let Nancy determine what level is needed.
Motion seconded, vote unanimous.
Training of Pollworkers: The training is scheduled for:
August 12th 9:00 a.m. ? 11:00 a.m.
August 14th 1:00 p.m. - 3:00
p.m.
August 19th 9:00 a.m. ? 11:00 p.m.
August 21st 1:00 p.m. ? 3:00 p.m.
The poll managers will select the workers that they think need training. Ken
Barfield asked that the poll managers be contacted to determine who will be
working during the special election.
The board agreed to order 15% absentee ballots and not to print the precinct
names on the ballots so that they can be interchanged.
Revision of By-Laws: The by-laws will be discussed at the August Board Meeting.
A motion was made and seconded to adjourn the meeting. Vote unanimous
