Mr. Robert Carson
64 Clearview Circle
Columbus, Georgia 31907
Subject: Clearview Circle
One-way Traffic Circulation
Dear Mr. Carson:
The City works with Columbus State University to assist in managing
traffic in and around the college campus. Several times, we requested your
input on the proposal to create a one-way traffic pattern around Clearview
Circle. The one-way pattern would operate in a counter-clockwise direction
beginning at the point that Clearview Circle intersects itself and ending again
at the same intersection (please refer to the attached map). The first 430
feet + from University Avenue to the CSU parking lot driveway just past
Clearview Circle intersection would remain two-way traffic.
The benefits of this one-way operation are safer egress from driveways since
motorists would have to watch for traffic in only one direction, safer
pedestrian crossings, provide more on-street parking and should reduce accident
potential. The Engineering Department is recommending to Columbus Council on
Tuesday, September 16, 2003 to enact an ordinance to create the one-way
operation around Clearview Circle. All ordinances require two readings before
Council with the first reading being the public hearing and the second (the
following Tuesday) being the date that the ordinance is approved/denied.
Hence, we are inviting you to the September 16th Council meeting that starts at
9:00 AM to voice your comments for or against the one-way proposal. Richard
Bishop, our Deputy City Manager, will also be glad to discuss this proposal
with you prior to the Council Meeting. You may contact him by phone at
706-653-4441 by fax at 706-653-4439 or by e-mail at rbishop@columbusga.org. We
look forward to hearing from you.
