THE GREATER COLUMBUS GOLF AUTHORITY
MINUTES OF MEETING
October 28, 2003
The Greater Columbus Golf Authority held the scheduled monthly meeting at Bull
Creek Golf Course. Members present were Chairman Donald Clack, Floyd
Washington, Rick Cravens, Rev. Willie Hill, June Holder, Richard Hagler,
Rhudine Nelson and Nancy Wilkeson. Dr. Earl Bagley had an unexcused absence.
Staff members present were John Milam and Steve Brown.
Minutes of the September 23, 2003, meeting were approved as presented. Motion
made by June Holder and seconded by Rick Cravens.
Report of Steve Brown, Superintendent
The tees on the East Course were overseeded along with the practice greens and
the tee area on the driving range. The underbrush and tree trimming has begun
on the West Course. The maintenance crew has added wood chips on holes 6 and 7
and will continue to work behind the contractor.
Godwin Creek
A meeting was held last week and a presentation was put together for fund
raising. It will be mailed out later in the week. They have $5000 in the bank
and the state sales tax has been paid. Godwin Creek is $14,185 in debt. The
pump is down and in need of repair which will probably exhaust the bank balance.
Report of John Milam, Director of Golf
Financial Report:
Oxbow Creek is holding its own. The revenue at Bull Creek is down
approximately 40% in fiscal year ?04 compared to that of fiscal year ?03 in the
month of September. John believes this is due to football and hunting season
now open. Winter rates will go into effect tomorrow and will run through
March ?04. After 12 o'clock, play at Bull Creek will be $25 and after 2 p.m.
play will be $20 Monday through Saturday. On Wednesday?s, Bull Creek will
offer a special which includes $1 per hole, $1 hotdogs, hamburgers and
beverages. John also stated that it costs $22 per round to operate.
Buffalo Rock has stated that they are committed to Bull Creek and would like to
continue their lease. They will increase their stock to offer more variety
including diet beverages.
Project Update:
The West Course will cost Bull Creek more to open now then in late spring or
early summer. Improvements on holes 4 through 12 are steady. Bull Creek has
taken over the maintenance of the sand bunkers.
At this point the venue of the meeting changed to the West Course where the
authority members along with John Milam and Steve Brown voiced their concerns
regarding opening this portion of the course early. A motion was made by
Richard Hagler and seconded by Rick Craven to delay the opening until the
Director of Golf and the Golf Course Superintendent agree. All members were in
unanimous agreement.
A motion was made at 4:57 p.m. to adjourn by Richard Hagler and seconded by
Rick Cravens.
Respectfully submitted,
Nancy Wilkeson, Secretary
