A RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Charles Donald Beall of Columbus was recently honored by the Georgia
Humanities Council for his preservation of African-American history in
southwest Georgia;
WHEREAS, Mr. Beall was one of eleven recipients of the 2003 Governor's Awards
in the Humanities presented by Governor Sonny Perdue in Atlanta;
WHEREAS, Mr. Beall, a former teacher in Detroit, was raised in the area and
retired to Columbus where he developed a passion for African-American history,
particularly in Stewart and Quitman counties;
WHEREAS, in Westville, he has developed interpretive programs and has helped
document the history of Green Grove Baptist Church for inclusion on the
National Register;
WHEREAS, Mr. Beall is also active with the Georgia Trust for Historic
Preservation and the Georgia African American Historic Preservation Network;
WHEREAS, Mr. Beall's accomplishments are worthy of special recognition by this
Council.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:
We hereby commend and congratulate Mr. Charles Donald Beall upon his receipt of
the 2003 Governor's Award in the Humanities and for his work in preserving
African-American history in southwest Georgia. Let a copy of this resolution
be forwarded to Mr. Charles Donald Beall.
