Subject CLOSING OF PHENIX REGIONAL HOSPITAL

Description There is some concern about patient care and where the people will

be going to hospitals, and whether or not there will be any kind of impact on

our Indigent Care Program; therefore, she would like for the administration to

check with Columbus Regional Hospital and determine whether or not there will

be any kind of impact on the funds that we have to pay (3 mills) every year,

which is approximately $10 million. (Request of Councilor Turner Pugh)

Response I discussed this with Tom Titus of Columbus Regional. He stated that

the 3 mils allocated by the City is only used for Muscogee County residents.

It would not be used for indigents from Phenix City or other locations. In

fact, they do have some indigents come in from other areas and if they treat

them, it is basically written off as bad debt. Columbus Regional also receives

some state funds for indigents in other counties but not Phenix City.
