MINUTES # 17-04



The Columbus, Georgia, Board of Tax Assessors met Wednesday, April 28, 204 at

2:00PM with Chairman Lawton Grantham, Assessors Richard Stallings, Ann

Grantham, William Braxton and Pat Hunter present. Also present was Chief

Appraiser Martin J. Land.



Assessor Ann Grantham made a motion to approve Minutes #16-04, Assessor William

Braxton second the motion, motion carried unanimously.



The Board approved tax exempt status for Parcel ID 014 014 034 and 035 for 2004.



In regard to Ralph Austin?s application for homestead exemption Chief Appraiser

Martin Land advised the Board that consulting with the City Attorney Clifton

Fay, Mr. Austin is not eligible for the exemption for the year 2004; a LLC does

not qualify for receiving homestead exemption, also Mr. Austin did not

individually own the property on January 1, 2004.



The following VA letters of application for VA exemption were reviewed and

approved:



Whitehead 011 002 007 Approved

Evans 059 006 007 Approved



Met with Mr. King, Mr. Johnson & Mr. Jackson representing Nazareth Baptist

Church, Inc. requesting non-taxability for property located at 540 Radcliff Ave

(Parcel ID 049 010 007). They said the church purchased the property on

December 22, 2003 and are using the property for recreation purposes; however,

the house is vacant and was not used on January 1, 2004. They said they are

going to demolish the house. They also said the boys and girls club used the

property for recreation purposes and the future plans for the property would be

for youth recreation. The Board requested a field review.



Met with Commercial Division Chief Linda King, reviewed and approved the
