A RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Rigdon Road Elementary School has been selected as one of only five

schools in Georgia to be a Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Secretary of

Education;



WHEREAS, Secretary Margaret Spellings announced that a total of 295

schools were selected across the United States for this honor;



WHEREAS, the program recognizes schools that make significant progress in

closing the achievement gap and eligible schools include those with at least

40% of students from disadvantage backgrounds and those which achieve in the

top 10% of their state on standardized tests;



WHEREAS, Rigdon Road Elementary School?s accomplishments are worthy of special

recognition by this Council.



NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:



We commend and congratulate Rigdon Road Elementary School and Principal Phyllis

Jones upon their selection as one of only five Blue Ribbon Schools in Georgia.

Let a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Rigdon Road Elementary School

Principal Phyllis Jones.
