A RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, the Columbus Police Department, the Muscogee County Sheriff's

Department, the Muscogee County Prison, Columbus Department of Fire and EMS and

the Georgia State Patrol provided security for the demonstrations held near the

Fort Benning gate in November, 2004;



WHEREAS, over 10,000 participants used the demonstration zone on Saturday,

November 20 and Sunday, November 21, 2004;



WHEREAS, the Columbus Police Department was only forced to make three arrests

during this year's demonstration;



WHEREAS, the members of the Columbus Police Department, Muscogee County

Sheriff's Department, Muscogee County Prison and Georgia State Patrol deserve

special recognition for their dedicated service during this event.



NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:



We hereby commend and express our deep appreciation to the members of the

Columbus Police Department, the Muscogee County Sheriff's Department, the

Muscogee County Prison and the Georgia State Patrol for their service, skill

and patience while dealing with the multitude of demonstrators during the

weekend of November 20-21, 2004. Let a copy of this resolution be forwarded to

Chief of Police Ricky Boren, Sheriff Ralph Johnson, Warden Bill Adamson, Fire

and EMS Chief Roy Waters and SSC Richard Kemp of the Georgia State Patrol.
