MINUTES # 04-02



The Columbus, Georgia, Board of Tax Assessors met Wednesday, January 30, 2002,

at 2:00PM

with Chairman Beatrice Breaux, Assessors Lawton Grantham, Richard Stallings and

Ann Grantham present. Also present was Chief Appraiser Martin J. Land.

Assessor John Kendrick was absent .



Approved Minutes # 03-02



The Board approved assessment corrections for real estate.



The following VA letter of application for VA exemption was reviewed and

approved:



088 023 002 Jenkins Approved.



The Board also approved the breach of the conservation use covenant for parcel

ID 103 001 019H.



Chief Appraiser Martin Land presented the result of a field check for parcel ID

114 003 001 reviewed by the Residential Division. The Board approved tax exempt

status for 2002.



The Board approved a request for non-taxability submitted by the Columbus Area

Habitat for Humanity, Inc. for parcel ID 028 006 001a for 2001.



Met with Father Patterson and Mr. Bowers representing J. Kevin Boland, the Most

Reverend as Roman Catholic Bishop of the Diocese of Savannah; requesting

non-taxability for property located at 1233 Veterans Pky. Mr. Bowers told the

Board the property was purchased for future growth and expansion, presently it

is used for parking. The Board requested a field review.



Met with Bishop Brawner representing the Pentecostal Church of God requesting

non-taxability for property located at 1035 Vineville Street. Bishop Brawner

said they were renting the property but began using it last year for a Youth

Center and Sunday School Classes. The Board requested a field review.



Met with Mr. Bonner representing Masjid Al-Nur etc. requesting non-taxability

for property located at 753 Church Ave. Mr. Bonner said the property is used as

a mosque. The Board advised Mr. Bonner that the property should be in the

church?s name. Mr. Bonner told the Board Masjid Al-Nur is the name of the

church. Mr. Bonner explained that they have applied for Federal Tax Exempt

status but have not received the approval at this time. The Board advised the

Mr. Bonner to have a new

deed prepared transferring the title into the mosque?s name. The Board asked

Chief Appraiser Land to seek advice from City Attorney Clifton Fay regarding

the eligibility for tax exempt status.



Met Mr. Law representing Pinehurst Baptist Church requesting non-taxability for

property located at 132 Prince Ave. Mr. Law told the Board the property was

purchased July 6, 2000 and it is presently being used to store church material

and items. The Board requested a field review.



Met with Commercial Division Chief Linda King, reviewed and approved the

following:



2001 Map Splits: 5

2002 Map Splits: 1

Land Reval: 1

2002 Transfers: 8



Met with Personal Property Division Chief Oliver Juhan, reviewed and approved

the following:



Assessment Corrections: 6(-)
