MINUTES # 23-03
The Columbus, Georgia, Board of Tax Assessors met Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at
2:00PM with Chairman Lawton Grantham, Assessors Richard Stallings, William
Braxton and Pat Hunter present. Also present was Chief Appraiser Martin J.
Land. Assessor Ann Grantham was absent
Assessor William Braxton made a motion to approve Minutes #22-03, Assessor
Richard Stallings second it, motion carried unanimously.
The Board reviewed and approved Rehabilitated Historic Property Applications
for 2003
(7 Preliminary Certifications and 4 Final Certifications).
The Board approved a Development Authority Bond Letter for 1043 Partnership,
LLP for 2003.
Chief Appraiser Martin Land presented some additional information regarding the
denial of homestead exemption for parcel ID 170 001 007. This office was
informed that the Building Inspection Office had given the owner special
permission to move into the house before the property was finalized. The Board
granted homestead exemption for 2003.
Met with Mrs. Davis representing her son Ricky regarding Personal Property
account # 05951701for the years of 2000, 2001, and 2002. Mrs. Davis said in
April of 1999 her son took out a business license for ?Extreme Kar Kustoms?,
however, he actually never went in business. She said he did not know he had to
close his business license. She said he was going to lease a space from ?Nu-
Deal MotorTrendz?, but her son never started his business and no assets were
acquired. She told the Board an acquaintance of her is an employee in the
Business License Office and she notified her of the open business license. Mrs.
Davis said the business license was closed October 15, 2002. She said the
business ?Nu-Deal MotorTrendz? was operating out of the space her son was
suppose to lease. The Board asked Chief Appraiser Martin Land to check if an
assessment existed for the years 2000, 2001 and 2002 for another business at
that location.
Met with Commercial Division Chief Linda King, reviewed and approved the
