Isaiah Hugley presided at the meeting. He asked each person to introduce
themselves and state which department they represent. Isaiah also introduced
Mr. Hosley and Mr. Williams, the two interns that will be working with the city
managers office on various projects. The following topics were discussed.
I. Department responsibilities that were discussed in the prior meeting
were reviewed.
II. The seat belt issue discussed in the prior meeting was reviewed and
recommendations were made that each department within the city should have
policies in place for seat belt violations. These policies should be the same
through out the city. It was noted that there are too many inconsistencies
within the city due to the fact that each department has a different set of
policies to abide by. It was noted by Public Services that violations have
decreased due to the suspension policies that were put in place by their
department.
III. Each department was given the opportunity to discuss any accidents
that occurred in their department. Roy Reese brought up the issue of city
employees driving aggressively. Isaiah stated that any complaint of this
nature should be referred to Risk Management. Isaiah will check with Human
Resources regarding a policy on employees reporting to work with contagious or
health/life threatening illness.
IV. The motor vehicle report was revisited and Clyde stated that you
can not check drivers? licenses in Alabama. Information will not be released.
However, you can check drivers? licenses in Georgia by calling 404-657-9300.
As a side note, Clyde checks the licenses of all employees who attend the
drivers? training course.
V. Riding in the back of city vehicles was reviewed. Maxwell Todd
informed the committee that this was only illegal on the interstate, but he
recommended that city employees not be allowed to ride in the bed of pick-up
trucks. Isaiah stated that a city policy can be put into place to prohibit
employees from riding in the bed of pick-up trucks. Isaiah will discuss this
matter with the Risk Management Committee and will ask department heads with
pickup trucks to review this practice.
VI. Clyde stated an incident where an employee was injured and upon
returning to work, he still did not follow safety rules. The supervisor even
overlooked certain rules that were not being followed. All safety rules need
to be acknowledged and enforced.
VII. Steel toe boots are issued to Public Services and Metra employees
in fleet maintenance areas. Other areas should be reviewed to determine if
steel toe boots are appropriate. Also, we need to review how we deal with
inmates working in areas where steel toe boots would be required.
VIII. AED training needs to be revisited. A plan is in progress now to
have a representative from each department trained on the AED machine. Every
department needs to have an AED machine available and training conducted. A
list of everyone that has gone through training needs to be provided and
distributed through out the city.
IX. The meeting was adjourned.
