The Columbus, Georgia, Board of Tax Assessors met Wednesday, March 31, 2004 at

2:00PM with Chairman Lawton Grantham, Assessors Richard Stallings, Ann

Grantham, William Braxton and Pat Hunter present. Also present was Chief

Appraiser Martin J. Land.



Assessor Richard Stallings made a motion to approve Minutes # 12-04 , Assessor

Ann Grantham second the motion, motion carried unanimously.



The Board reviewed a letter regarding removal of homestead exemption for parcel

ID 062 033 013; however, took no action. The Board also reviewed a letter of

appeal regarding the removal of homestead exemption for parcel ID 097 002 011;

however, denied reinstatement of homestead exemption for 2004.



The following VA letters of application for VA exemption were reviewed and

approved:



Dixon 066 009 021 Approved.

West 096 007 045 Approved.



Met with Mr. Gray representing the Executive Committee of the Baptist

Convention requesting non-taxability for property located at 2314 Japonica Ave

(Parcel ID 085 057 011). Mr. Gray said the property located at 2314 Japonica

Ave is used as a residence for the Campus Minister and his family. He said no

income is received from the property. The Board requested a field review.



Met with Mrs. Weathers regarding her personal property account # 06400501. Mrs.

Weathers said she found out last week that a tax lien was placed against her.

She said she never received a notice and she was not aware that she had to pay

local taxes; she said she paid federal taxes. The Board advised her that the

assessment was placed on her property since she did not file a tax return for

2003 and it was her responsibility to file. She said the value of the property

was not $10,000. The Board explained to her that was the reason she was

required to file a tax return. The Board advised her to file a return for 2004

and give a listing of her business assets. The Board took no action for 2003.
