CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order by Chairperson, Donna Baudoin at 12:08 p.m.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF THE APRIL 9, 2002 MEETING
The minutes of the April 9th 2002 Commissioner=s meeting was approved.
TREASURER=S REPORT
The Treasurer=s Report was presented by Julie Bray.
PETITIONS & COMMUNICATIONS
Chairperson, Donna Baudoin presented to the Commissioners the following:
k State of Georgia Department of Transportation new litter campaign brochures
are targeting unsecured loads on trucks. Commissioners were encouraged to take
the brochures to share with local companies.
k The second KCBC full page Ledger Enquirer Ad proved to be a great success.
k Gloria will attend the KAB 2002 Southern District Meeting July 31-August 3,
2002.
k A sign up sheet was passed around for volunteers to man the KCBC display at
the Columbus International Festival, which will be held August 11, 2002, at
2:00 p.m. -7:00 p.m., at the Civic Center.
k A thank you letter was received from Brookstone School for being recognized
as Gateways School of the Year.
OLD BUSINESS
O Nominating Committee Report. Council approved Commissioners appointments and
reappointments during the April 16th meeting. Please see Nominating Report for
a list of Commissioners.
O The 2002-2003 CCG Budget request was $ 86,373; However, KCBC was only
approved $83,727.
O O A reimbursement request in the amount of $5,789.00 will be submitted to
Gateways to cover the cost of the 2001-2002 Gateways Program. KCBC will also
submit a 2002-2003 Budget proposal to Gateways in the amount of $6,062.00.
O John Flournoy stated that he would like for the Commission to develop new
landscaping projects for area schools. Commissioner Charlene LeBleu suggested
starting a Tree Memorial project for schools, stating that trees may be planted
in memory of their teachers.
NEW BUSINESS
O Chamber of Commerce Inter-City Tour. Chairperson Baudoin stated that Gloria
will be going to the Chamber of Commerce Inter- City tour to represent KCBC.
O Commissioner Bill Green introduced a yard waste compost project that he would
like the Commission to consider. Gloria will schedule a meeting with Public
Service Department Heads to address the feasibility of implementing a new
project.
HIGHLIGHTS OF COMMITTEE REPORTS
1. Environmental Court - Gloria stated that the City Manager Carmen Cavezza
indicated that the City will proceed with the KCBC proposal to implement an
Environmental Court.
2. Tree Ordinance. Commissioner Binns announced that the Tree Ordinance was
passed. Gloria also stated the there are two amendments that will be voted on
next Tuesday, June 18.
3. The Magic of Recycling. Chairperson Baudoin stated that the shows were
delightful and we are planning on booking it for the next year. She also
encouraged Commissioners who didn=t see the show to make a special effort to
see it next year.
4. Annual Awards Luncheon. Gloria thanked the Annual Awards Committee and
Commissioners for showing their support. Chairperson Baudoin also expressed
her appreciation to the Commissioners and encouraged them to submit nominations
for next year.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
k The next meeting will be August, 13 12 noon , Two Thousand Opportunities Inc,
1170 Brown Avenue.
k Commissioner Paula James Father-in-law passed, please keep her and her family
in your thoughts and prayers.
k Water Festival - The Water Festival is planned for May 2003 and will focus on
the Chattahoochee River Basin. Chairperson Baudoin stated that Gloria will
keep us informed on this event.
