SUBJECT: Support of Grant Application

Recommendation: Support the Renaissance Personal Development Program's grant
application for $50,000 from the State of Georgia Children & Youth
Coordinating Council.
Background: Renaissance is an intensive, educational and developmental program
designed to address the social and personal problems that at-risk children &
youth 9 - 16 encounter. Renaissance seeks to transform the lives of these
children and youth by providing early intervention and prevention activities
such as after-school, mentoring and truancy prevention programs.
The Columbus Children Youth & Family Coalition has reviewed and supports the
submission of this application.
Analysis: Funds are available from the State of Georgia Children & Youth
Coordinating Council for Juvenile Justice Community Enrichment/Outreach
Programs. Suggested activities for funds include after school enrichment and
education, conflict resolution and alternative programs for high-risk youth.
Financial Considerations: The grant amount is $50,000 with no matching funds
required from the City of Columbus. Funds will be available June 1, 2004
through May 31, 2005.
Legal Considerations: Renaissance is qualified to apply for funds under this
program. Council's Resolution shows support and is required for application.
Recommendation/Actions: Support this application for funds from the State of
Georgia Children & Youth Coordinating Council Juvenile Justice Community
Enrichment/Outreach Program.
