MINUTES # 40-04



The Columbus, Georgia, Board of Tax Assessors met Wednesday, October 13, 2004,

at 2:00PM with Chairman Lawton Grantham, Assessors Richard Stallings, Ann

Grantham, William Braxton and Pat Hunter present. Also present was Chief

Appraiser Martin J. Land.



Assessor Pat Hunter made a motion to approve Minutes # 28-04, Assessor Ann

Grantham seconded the motion, motion carried unanimously.



The Board approved assessment corrections for real estate.



The Board voted not to have a meeting the week of November 17, 2004 since

some Board members will be attending a Department of Revenue re-certification

course.



Met with Mr. Parker regarding personal property account # 05679901. He said the

business license was for his son who had a kiosk in Columbus Square Mall

selling sunglasses. He said he opened the business in July 1997 and went out of

business in October 1997. He said he had a month -to-month lease and had

approximately $2,300 in inventory. Mr. Parker said when he went out of

business; he gave a lot of the sunglasses away. He said he did not know he had

to close his business license. He said he received a letter from the Business

License Office and talked with someone in the Tax Commissioner?s Office, but

did not remember receiving anything from the Tax Assessors? Office. He said the

Mall closed in 1999. The Board advised him that no personal property return

was filed and the business license was not closed until October 6, 2004. The

Board removed the assessment for 2000.
