Sub: Animal Control Advisory Board







The current term of office of Dr. Nonie Eakle, Ms. Jimmie Nell Graham and

Ms. Maxine C. Lee on the Animal Control Advisory Board will expire on October

15, 2004. Dr. Eakle is eligible to succeed herself for one additional 2-year

term. Ms. Graham and Ms. Lee are not eligible to succeed themselves as they

would have served two consecutive terms of office when their current term

expires.



Dr. Eakle serves in a position that must be filled by a licensed

veterinarian practicing in Columbus and participating in the one-stop pet

registration rabies vaccination program and selected by the local Veterinary

Association. We have written the Association requesting their nominee.



Including Dr. Eakle, there are three members who reside in Senatorial

District 16. Including Ms. Lee and Ms. Graham, three members reside in

Senatorial District 15. There are currently four women serving on this board,

CREATED BY: Ordinance No 84-91, adopted October 2, 1984, as codified in Sec

5-3 of the Columbus Code.



CHARTER REFERENCE: No reference to this specified board, but see Section

COLUMBUS CODE REFERENCE: Section 5-1 through 5-19 (d) for references to this

specified board and Sections 2-1, 2-3.01, 2-3.02 and 2-3.1 for general

provisions relating to all boards, commissions, authorities, and committees.



COMPOSITION OF BOARD: Ten Members, nine of which shall be voting members and

one nonvoting member. The Director of Department of Public Services shall be a

permanent member. (Col. Code, Sec. 5-3 (c)



QUALIFICATIONS OF MEMBERS: Two members shall be licensed veterinarians

practicing in Columbus who are participating in the ?one stop pet

registration-rabies vaccination program?. These two members are selected by

the local veterinary association as a representative of the association and the

selections shall be confirmed by the Columbus Council. One member shall be

designated representative of the Muscogee County Humane Society, confirmed by

the Council of Columbus. Four members shall be citizens appointed by the

Columbus Council. The chief of the Animal Control and Enforcement Division

shall be nonvoting member. (Col. Code, Sec. 5-3 (c) (2) through (7)

Charge/Mission

This board monitors the operation of the Animal Control and Enforcement

Division of the Department of Public Services and renders guidance and

assistance to this division. It has ten members, two of which shall be

licensed veterinarians practicing in Columbus who are participating in the

City's one-stop pet registration-rabies vaccination program. The two

veterinarian members are selected by the local veterinary association and

confirmed by the Columbus Council. One member shall be an employee of the

Environmental Health Division of the Columbus Department of Public Health,

appointed by the Columbus Board of Health and confirmed by the Columbus

Council. One member shall be a designated representative of the Muscogee

County Humane Society, confirmed by the Columbus Council. Four members shall

be Columbus citizens appointed by the Columbus Council. One member shall be

the chief of the Animal Control and Enforcement Division and one member shall

be the administrative officer of the Animal Control and Enforcement Division.
