A RESOLUTION
No.
WHEREAS, Columbus lawyer Alan Friend Rothschild died on Saturday May 8, 2004;
WHEREAS, Mr. Rothschild was born in Columbus on August 15, 1925, son of the
late Irwin Bernard and Aleen Samuels Rothschild;
WHEREAS, he graduated from the University of Virginia and the University of
Virginia School of Law and practiced law for 53 years with the law firm of
Hatcher, Stubbs, Land, Hollis and Rothschild;
WHEREAS, he previously served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of St.
Francis Hospital and the Medical Center;
WHEREAS, he was a member of Temple Israel, Life Trustee of the Columbus Museum,
former President of the Columbus Bar Association, and a Fellow of the American
College of Trust and Estate Counsel;
WHEREAS, he also served on the boards of Brookstone School, the Anne Elizabeth
Shepherd Home, the Springer Opera House, Columbus Legal Aid Society, the Family
Counseling Center, The Boys Club, and the Three Arts League;
WHEREAS, Mr. Rothschild was an avid gardener and shared his roses and knowledge
of gardening throughout the community;
WHEREAS, he is survived by his wife, Eva Pound Rothschild, two sons, Alan F.
Rothschild, Jr. and his wife, Jewett Winn Rothschild of Columbus, and William
G. Rothschild and his wife Susan Somers Rothschild of Atlanta; a daughter,
Elizabeth P. Rothschild of Durham, N.C.; grandchildren Alan F. Rothschild, III,
Caroline J. Rothschild, Elizabeth S. Rothschild and William G. Rothschild, Jr.;
sisters, Laurette R. Rosenstrauch, and Matile Rothschild and brothers, Irwin B
Rothschild, Jr. and David Rothschild II.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:
We hereby express our sincere condolences and deepest sympathy to the family of
Mr. Alan F. Rothschild. His service to the Columbus community will long be
remembered. Let a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the family of Alan
Friend Rothschild.

Introduced at a regular meeting of the Council of Columbus, Georgia held on the
