MINUTES # 02-02



The Columbus, Georgia, Board of Tax Assessors met Wednesday, January 16, 2002,

at 2:00PM with Chairman Beatrice Breaux, Assessors Lawton Grantham, Richard

Stallings and Ann Grantham present. Also present was Chief Appraiser Martin J.

Land. Assessor John Kendrick was absent.



Approved Minutes # 01-02.



The Board approved assessment corrections for real estate.



The following VA letters of application for VA exemption were reviewed and

approved:



097 002 016 Kaido Approved

110 013 010 Nunnally Approved



Met with Mr. Khan regarding his personal property account 05034201. He said he

went out of business in December 1999 and junked all of his assets. He provided

the Board with a letter from Starmount Shopping Center stating he turned over

the premises to Starmount Shopping Center January 3, 2000. He presented no

documentation of the disposal of his assets. The Board took no action.



Met with Rev. and Mrs. Latimore representing Smith Grove African Methodist

Church requesting non-taxability for property located at 2630 Pinola Ave

(Parcel ID 114 003 001). Rev. Latimore said the property is used for a

parsonage and he moved in April of 2001. The Board requested a field check.



Met with Mr. Garrett representing Edgewood Methodist Church requesting

non-taxability for property located at 4009 Edgewood Circle (Parcel ID 085 051

006). He said the front yard is used for parking and the pianist of the church

lives in the house and does not pay any rent. The Board approved tax exempt

status for 2002.



Met with Mr. and Mrs. Neal representing Alive with Christ Ministries requesting

non-taxability for property located at 2413 Dawson St (Parcel ID 041 020 007)

Mrs. Neal said they bought the property on August 17, 2001 and it is used as a

church building. She said in 2001 they made an addition to the building that is

used for a fellowship hall. The Board requested a field review.
