MINUTES # 17-02



The Columbus, Georgia, Board of Tax Assessors met Wednesday, May 1, 2002, at

2:00PM with Chairman Beatrice Breaux, Assessors Lawton Grantham, Richard

Stallings and Ann Grantham present. Also present was Chief Appraiser Martin J.

Land



Assessor Lawton Grantham made a motion to approve Minutes # 16-02, Assessor

Richard Stallings second it, motion carried unanimously.



The following VA letters of application for VA exemption were reviewed and

approved:



084 044 010 Swilling Approved

113 024 016 Jones Approved.



Met with Residential Division Chief Bob O?Brien, reviewed and approved the

following:



2002 Map Splits: 3

Non-HS Permits: 1059

New Construction: 8

Demo: 4

Fire Damage: 1

Move-On: 3

Perm/Field Rev: 16



Met with Commercial Division Chief Linda King, reviewed and approved the

following:



2002 Map Split: 2

Permits: 164

Transfers/Rev: 6

Condo Reval: 1



Commercial Div King reported the results of a field check for parcel ID 018 012

005. She said the lot is irregular in shape, is not blacktopped, but the grass

was cut. She said she could verify that two cars were parked on the lot on

Easter Sunday. Assessor Lawton Grantham made the motion to grant tax exempt

status for 2002; Assessor Richard Stallings second it, motion carried

unanimously.

The Board reviewed information furnished by Interstate Brands and determined

that the documentation submitted was not sufficient to accept the personal

property return as timely filed. The Board deemed the return to be late, since

Interstate Brands was unable to furnish a US postage cancellation showing it

was mailed on or before April 1, 2002. Assessor Lawton Grantham made the motion

not to accept the return as timely filed; Assessor Ann Grantham second it,

motion carried unanimously.
