RESOLUTION
NO.
WHEREAS, Mr. Ray G. Evans, former Division Manager of the Parks and Recreation
Department, died on May 27, 2003;
WHEREAS, Mr. Evans retired on January 1, 2003 after serving eight years with
the Parks and Recreation Department;
WHEREAS, Mr. Evans was a graduate of Carver High School in 1973, attended North
Georgia Military College and received his Bachelor of Science and Master of
Public Administration Degrees from Columbus State University;
WHEREAS, he served in the U.S. Air Force for 14 years, was a Staff Sergeant
during Operation Desert Storm/Desert Shield and was awarded the AF Longevity
Service Award with Two Oak Leaf Clusters, the AF Commendation Medal, the
National Defense Service Medal, the AF Overseas Service Tour Ribbon and the AF
Good Conduct Medal with Three Oak Leaf Clusters;
WHEREAS, Mr. Evans was a part-time instructor at Columbus State University from
1999-2002 and he was a member of New Mt. Zion Baptist Church;
WHEREAS, he is survived by his wife, Vanessa of Pine Mountain, Georgia,
daughter Christina Evans of Columbus, his parents, Edward L. and Violet A.
Evans of Columbus and two brothers, Anthony T. Evans of Fayetteville, Georgia
and Darryl E. Evans of Stone Mountain, Georgia.
NOW, THEREFORE THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:
We hereby convey to the family of Mr. Ray G. Evans our sincere condolences and
deepest sympathy. Mr. Evans was an outstanding employee of the Parks and
Recreation Department and he will be missed by all who knew him. Let a copy of
this resolution be forwarded to the family of Mr. Ray G. Evans.

Introduced at a regular meeting of the Council of Columbus, Georgia held on the
10th day of June, 2003, and adopted at said meeting by the affirmative vote of
