A RESOLUTION
No.
WHEREAS, Kenneth Thomas, a Columbus native, was recently honored by the Georgia
Humanities Council for his work in historic preservation and genealogical
research in Georgia;
WHEREAS, Mr. Thomas was one of eleven recipients of the 2003 Governor's Awards
in the Humanities presented by Governor Sonny Perdue in Atlanta;
WHEREAS, Mr. Thomas was honored for a long career of research and writing on
historic preservation, genealogy and local history;
WHEREAS, Mr. Thomas serves as the principal historian in the state's Historic
Preservation Division in Atlanta and has been involved in documenting more than
1500 National Register nominations;
WHEREAS, he has also written a weekly genealogy column in the Atlanta
Journal-Constitution since 1977;
WHEREAS, he is the author of several books and has been a leader in many of
Georgia's academic history, preservation and genealogical organizations;
WHEREAS, Mr. Thomas' accomplishments are worthy of special recognition by this
Council.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:
We hereby commend and congratulate Mr. Kenneth Thomas upon his receipt of the
2003 Governor's Award in the Humanities and for his work in historic
preservation and genealogical research in Georgia. Let a copy of this
resolution be forwarded to Mr. Kenneth Thomas.
