Columbus Consolidated Government

Council Memorandum

TO: Mayor and Councilors DATE: January 8, 2002

THROUGH: Carmen Cavezza, City Manager SUBJECT: Proposed New Rural Residential

District

FROM: Rick Jones, AICP,

Director of Community and

Economic Development

As requested by Council, staff has prepared a new residential zoning

classification. The new A-2, Rural Residential zone would require a minimum of

20,000 square feet per lot, and is an intermediary zone between an R-1 (Low

Density, 15,000 square feet) and an A-1 (Agricultural, 40,000 square feet).

Shown below is the complete listing of minimum lot area and setback

requirements proposed for this zoning district. A complete listing of the

allowable principal and accessory uses is attached.

District and Uses Minimum Lot Area (Square Feet) Minimum Lot Area Per Family (Square Feet)

Minimum Lot Width (Feet) Front (Feet) Side (Feet) Side-Corner Lot (Feet) Rear (Feet) Maximum Height (Feet) Maximum Lot

Coverage by Buildings

A-2 Rural Residential 20,000 20,000 110 40 18 30 40 35 20%

Before this zoning classification can be considered by Council, it must first

go to the Planning Advisory Commission (PAC). Then it must be advertised in the

local newspaper at least fifteen (15) days prior to a public hearing before

Council. If Council agrees to this proposal, staff will place this item on the

next PAC agenda, which will be January 16.
