A RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Major General Benjamin C. Freakley is leaving Ft. Benning to assume

command of the 10th Mountain Division at Ft. Drum, New York;



WHEREAS, General Freakley has served at Ft. Benning as the Infantry Center

Commander since July 14, 2003;



WHEREAS, in 2002-03, he spent a combat tour in Iraq with the 101st Airborne

Division in Operation Iraqi Freedom and he also served in Operation Desert

Storm;



WHEREAS, at Ft. Drum, General Freakley will be in direct command of five

brigades including an aviation brigade;



WHEREAS, at Ft. Benning, he has overseen several major construction projects

including a $30 million digital multi-purpose range, a $30 million barracks

complex, an $11 million air deployment complex, $7.2 million in new access

control points, a $6.2 million chapel and a $2.8 million urban assault course;



WHEREAS, General Freakley?s accomplishments at Ft. Benning, Georgia and his

contributions to the Columbus community are worthy of special recognition by

this Council.



NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:



We hereby commend and express our deep appreciation to Major General Benjamin

C. Freakley for his outstanding command at Ft. Benning, Georgia and the strong

ties built with the Columbus community. We wish him every success as he

assumes his new duties at Ft. Drum, New York. Let a copy of this resolution be

forwarded to Major General Benjamin C. Freakley.
