Council Members
WHEREAS, former Columbus City Attorney, Mr. Lennie F. Davis, died on March 3,
2002 at the age of 87;
WHEREAS, Mr. Davis was a lifelong Columbus resident and was a 1938 law graduate
of Mercer University;
WHEREAS, he served in the U. S. Army during World War II and then returned to
his law practice in Columbus;
WHEREAS, he served as Columbus City Attorney from 1959-1982 and was
instrumental in forming the Charter for the new Consolidated Government of
Columbus;
WHEREAS, after retirement, he continued to practice municipal bond law,
representing the Columbus Development Authority;
WHEREAS, he also served as president of the Mercer Alumni Association and the
Walter F. George School of Law Alumni Association and was a founder of the
Columbus Lawyers Educational Foundation;
WHEREAS, he was active in many civic organizations including the Columbus
Rotary Club, the Columbus Boys' Club, the St. George Island Civic Club and the
St. George Island Plantation Owners' Association on St. George Island, Florida
where he maintained a second home;
WHEREAS, he was a longtime member of First Baptist Church and was married to
Josie Brown, his college sweetheart, since 1941.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:
We hereby convey to the family of Mr. Lennie F. Davis our sincere condolences
and deepest sympathy. His service to his country and the Columbus community
will long be remembered. Let a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the
family of Mr. Lennie F. Davis.

Introduced at a regular meeting of the Council of Columbus, Georgia held on the
12th day of March, 2002, and adopted at said meeting by the affirmative vote of
ten members of said Council.
