A RESOLUTION
NO.
WHEREAS, Columbus, Georgia is situated on the Chattahoochee River at the
northernmost point of the U.S. Inland Waterway in the
Apalachicola-Chattahoochee-Flint river system;
WHEREAS, Columbus has invested $1.2-million in plans and preparation for
building a 240-slip marina and the viability of those plans depends on
maintaining the navigability of the Waterway in the ACF river system;
WHEREAS, The Columbus Council is confident the ACF channel and its locks can be
maintained without damaging the environment;
WHEREAS, The City of Columbus is linked to the Gulf of Mexico by the U.S.
Inland Waterway and the Columbus Council believes the economic interests of
Columbus and of scores of communities downstream require that the ACF Waterway
should remain open for commercial and recreational navigation.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:
THAT, We support the efforts of the Tri Rivers Waterway Development
Association to get restoration of funding for the U.S. Inland Waterway in the
Apalachicola-Chattahoochee-Flint river system to the federal FY 2005 budget and
respectfully call upon the Congress of the United States to restore said
funding.
