NO.



WHEREAS, the Columbus Bar Association has been selected as the 2002 recipient

of the William B. Spann, Jr. Award by the State Bar of Georgia;



WHEREAS, the award is given each year either to a local bar association or a

community organization in Georgia which has developed a pro bono program that

has satisfied previously unmet needs or extended services to underserved

segments of the population;



WHEREAS, this award is named for a former president of the American Bar

Association and former executive director of the State Bar of Georgia;



WHEREAS, special recognition was also given to Mr. Alan F. Rothschild, Jr. and

Judge William J. Smith, Superior Court of Muscogee County, for commitment to

legal services for the poor through the Association's 2001-2002 Pro Bono

Campaign and Call to Service initiative, the Association's foresight in

adopting the Truancy Intervention Project model pro bono program, and for the

Columbus Bar Association's long-term commitment to the Columbus Regional Office

of Georgia Legal Services Program.



NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:



We hereby commend the Columbus Bar Association upon their selection as

the 2002 recipient of the William B. Spann, Jr. Award by the State Bar of

Georgia. We further commend Mr. Alan F. Rothschild, Jr. and Judge William J.

Smith for their special recognition for commitment to legal services for the

poor through the Association's 2001-2002 Pro Bono Campaign and Call to Service

initiative. Let a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Columbus Bar

Association, Mr. Alan F. Rothschild, Jr. and Judge William J. Smith.
