A RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING THE CIRCUIT WIDE PUBLIC DEFENDERS BASE BUDGET

FROM JANUARY 1, 2005 THROUGH JUNE 30, 2005 FOR MUSCOGEE COUNTY AT $478,000 AND

AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO ENTER INTO A CONTRACT WITH THE GEORGIA PUBLIC DEFENDER

STANDARDS COUNCIL (GPDSC) TO PROVIDE ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT FOR PUBLIC DEFENDER

PERSONNEL IN SUPERIOR AND JUVENILE COURT.



WHEREAS, the Columbus Consolidated Government is committed to providing

support for the Public Defender Program; and,



WHEREAS, the Georgia Public Defender Standards Council has offered to

provide administrative support to Public Defender personnel funded by the City

Government; and,



WHEREAS, the 10% administrative fee ($21,550) will be added to the base

budget and funded by all counties in the Chattahoochee Judicial Circuit on a

population basis. This fee will cover the cost of GPDSC providing the

following administrative services: payroll , fringe benefits, training,

travel, computer hardware, computer software and legal research software; and,



WHEREAS, this contract has been reviewed by the Finance Department and

is recommended for approval.



NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES AS

FOLLOWS:



1) That the base budget for the Circuit Wide Public Defender is established at

$478,000.



2) That the Mayor is hereby authorized to enter into a contract from January 1,

- June 30, 2005 with the Georgia Public Defender Standards Council to provide

administrative support for Public Defender personnel in Superior and Juvenile

Court.
