Budget Reduction on Ball Field Lights

Fact Sheet







Park Services Electricity line item will be reduced by $132,125.00.



Athletic programming will return to traditional seasons. During all down

times, lights would be available for Parks and Recreation special events based

on the budget and approval from the department. The lighting schedule will be

as follows:



February through July with Lights:



Adult Softball, Soccer, Little League Baseball fields and Satellite Tennis

Facilities:



South Commons, Alexander, Rosehill, Tillis, Lindsey Creek, Benning Park,

Northside, Double Churches, Edgewood, Rigdon Park, Psalmond Road, Lakebottom,

Britt David, Shirley Winston, Woodruff Farm Soccer Complex, Ardahila Mack.



Impact: None



February through July without Lights:



All football Fields, Satellite Basketball Facilities:



Lakebottom, Shirley Winston, Fort Middle School, Midland Middle School, Britt

David, Rigdon Park, Anderson Village, Ardahila Mack, Charlie Hill/Beallwood,

Boxwood, Carver Park, Gallops, Lakebottom, Fluellen, Old Dominion, Primus King,

Rigdon, Rosehill, McGee Park.



Impact:



We would not be affecting spring programming of the spring sports.



Football fields and Satellite Basketball facilities will not have lights during

this period. Individuals will still be able to use the facilities they will

only have to change their pattern of use during the course of daylight hours

and weekends.



August through January with Lights:



All football Fields, Satellite Basketball Facilities:



Lakebottom, Shirley Winston, Fort Middle School, Midland Middle School, Britt

David, Rigdon Park, Anderson Village, Ardahila Mack, Charlie Hill/Beallwood,

Boxwood, Carver Park, Gallops, Lakebottom, Fluellen, Old Dominion, Primus King,

Rigdon, Rosehill, McGee Park.



Impact: None







August through January without Lights:



Adult Softball, Soccer and Satellite Tennis Facilities:



South Commons, Alexander, Rosehill, Tillis, Lindsey Creek, Benning Park,

Northside, Double Churches, Edgewood, Rigdon Park, Psalmond Road, Lakebottom,

Britt David, Shirley Winston, Woodruff Farm Soccer Complex, Ardahila Mack.



Impact:



We would not be affecting the traditional fall sport of football. Impact would

affect the following:



? Fall baseball

? Fall softball

? Fall adult softball

? Fall Soccer



We have not cut out any programming, however we have reduced the time that they

will have lights. This will not eliminate youth fall sports. They will have to

change their format and play games during the week before dark and on

weekends. The adult Softball programming would be most affected by this.

Adults will be offered a weekend fall league at South Commons, Lindsey Creek,

Benning Park and Tillis.
