Agenda Report # 60
TO: Mayor and Council
SUBJECT: Governor?s Office of Highway Safety ? Small Grant Application
INITIATED BY: Police Department
__________________________________________________________
Recommendation: Authorize the submission and if approved, the acceptance of a
Small Grant for $15,000 from the Governor?s Office of Highway Safety for the
Columbus Police Department and amend the Multi-Governmental Fund (216) by a
like amount.
Background: The purpose of the program is to enhance traffic enforcement
efforts in Columbus. Funding for this program is provided by the Governor?s
Office of Highway Safety in the form of a one-time small grant award of up to
$15,000 for the period of October 1, 2004 ? September 30, 2005.
Analysis: The grants awarded in the initiative are limited to a maximum of
$15,000. No matching funds are required. Each project will be funded for a
period of twelve (12) months from the designated starting point of October 1,
2004. Locally, the Bureau of Patrol Services will manage the grant. The grant
requests approval to purchase $15,000 in supplies and equipment such as laptop
computers, portable breath testers, tint meters, embroidered shirts and caps,
and other items to enforce traffic laws, and educate the public in the area of
highway safety. Projects awarded under this category are not eligible for
continuation funding.
Financial Considerations: The proposed resolution will authorize the
acceptance of a small grant up to $15,000 of State Grant monies. No impact on
the General Fund will be incurred by accepting this grant.
Legal Considerations: Approval of the small grant will obligate the City to
all conditions of the grant award.
Recommendation/Action: Authorize the submission and if approved the acceptance
of a Small Grant for $15,000 from the Governor?s Office of Highway Safety for
the Columbus Police Department and amend the Multi-Governmental Fund (216) by a
like amount.
