A RESOLUTION

NO.





WHEREAS, the Columbus Consolidated Government Division of Urban Forest and

Beautification, the Keep Columbus Beautiful Commission and the Tree Board,

joined together in asking Auburn University Landscape Architecture to develop

landscaping plans for historic Columbus cemeteries;



WHEREAS, degree candidates in the Auburn University Master?s Program in

Landscape Architecture under the leadership of Assistant Professor Charlene

LeBleu developed landscaping plans for Porterdale (1820?s), East Porterdale

(1946) and Riverdale (1890) Cemeteries;



WHEREAS, the landscaping plans include: a historic background of the three

cemeteries, new entrances featuring new street trees from the list of trees

provided in the Tree Ordinance, a memorial to unmarked graves, a memorial

meditation garden, a covered service shelter, long-range maintenance plans and

additional parking spaces;



WHEREAS, the Auburn landscaping students presented several of the landscape

drawings at Oxbow Meadows Environmental Learning Center on February 12th, 2005

during the citywide Arbor Day Celebration, and presented their final plans to

Scott Jones of the CCG Division of Urban Forest and Beautification and Gloria

Weston-Smart Keep Columbus Beautiful on March 21, 2005;



WHEREAS, the generous donations of time and skill by the Auburn University

students are worthy of special recognition by this Council.



NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:



We hereby thank and commend the following Auburn University students and their

professor for the historic cemetery landscaping plans: Trip Atkins, Morgan

Beadles, Brandon Bias, David Dobson, Jessica Evans, Tin Tin Guo, Judd Langham,

Haley Runne, Laura Sanders, Ben Smith, Eric Thompson and Assistant Professor

Charlene LeBleu. Let a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to the above-named

scholars.
