MINUTES # 14-03



The Columbus, Georgia, Board of Tax Assessors met Wednesday, April 9, 2003, at

2:00PM with Chairman Lawton Grantham, Assessors Richard Stallings, Ann

Grantham, William Braxton and Pat Hunter present. Also present was Chief

Appraiser Martin J. Land.



Assessor Richard Stallings made a motion to approve Minutes #13-03, Assessor

Pat Hunter second the motion, motion carried unanimously.



The following VA letters of application for VA exemption were reviewed and

approved:



Baker 088 017 020 Approved.

Gill 082 017 003 Approved.

Culpepper 192 001 006A Approved.



The Board reviewed a letter from Frank Allen requesting the homestead exemption

freeze be reinstated on his property. Mr. Allen appeared before the Board of

Tax Assessors regarding the same request and was denied the reinstatement of

the homestead exemption freeze; therefore, the Board took no action on his

letter.



The Board approved the request for tax exempt status for Parcel ID 007 010 003

for the year 2003.



Met with Mr. Zastrow representing St. Mark United Methodist Church requesting

non-taxability for property located at 6817 Whitesville Rd. Mr. Zastrow said he

realized that two other representatives from the church have been before the

Board requesting non-taxability of this property; one was the secretary and the

other was the financial person working for the church. He said they did not

fully understand what the property is going to be used for. He said the church

had the property under option for seven years before purchasing it on May 3,

2002. He said the property is going to be used for a boy scout troop. Mr.

Zastrow said they started remodeling about 4 weeks ago and the property was not

used on January 1, 2003. The Board took no action since the request for tax

exempt status has been previously denied.

checked by the Residential Division.
