A RESOLUTION
No.
WHEREAS, the Brookstone School Lady Cougars tennis team recently won their
fifth Class A state championship;
WHEREAS, the Lady Cougars defeated Savannah Country Day School in the
quarterfinals to make it to the championship round held in Macon, Georgia;
WHEREAS, in Macon, the Lady Cougars won a hard-fought semifinal victory over
Athens Academy by a score of 3-2;
WHEREAS, with only 90 minutes to rest, Brookstone then took on defending
champion Wesleyan for the title and rallied to beat Wesleyan 3-2;
WHEREAS, the Lady Cougars previously won state titles in 1984, 1985, 1992 and
1995;
WHEREAS, the accomplishments of this team are worthy of special recognition by
this Council.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:
We commend and congratulate Brookstone School Lady Cougars tennis players Emily
Shea Beck, Charity Calhoun, Rudi Cumiskey, Everett King, Elizabeth Martin,
Tejal Patel, Cam Swift, Abby Williams and Lowrey Williams and Coach Mary Lynne
Cumiskey upon their victory in the 2002 Class A state championship. Columbus
is justly proud of this team?s hard work and dedication and we wish them every
success in the future.
