BUILDING CONTRACTORS EXAMINING BOARD
REGULAR MEETING - 11:00 A. M. - FEBRUARY 7, 2002
The regular monthly meeting of the Building Contractors' Examining
Board was held Thursday, February 7, 2002, at 11:00 A. M., in the office
of the Building Official. Members present were:
Mr. William L. Duck, Jr. Mr. Sam Hartin
Mrs. Stella Shulman Mr. Allen Wright
Board Member Tommy Hinton was unable to attend the meeting.
Nine (9) applications were considered by the Board. Certificates of
Qualification as Residential Contractors were issued to the following four (4)
applicants:
Thomas W. King
J. F. King Construction Columbus, Georgia
Michael ATodd@ Martin
BTM Renovators Fortson, Georgia
James Woody Gilliam Columbus, Georgia
Allen F. Cline Columbus, Georgia
Mr. Wright made a motion, which was seconded by Mrs. Shulman to issue
Certificates of Qualification to these four (4) applicants on the basis of
their grades on the examination, their letters of recommendation, and their
qualifications, as revealed by their resumes, which showed the times and places
of their work experience. (Examinations were administered by SBCCI, Southern
Building Code Congress, International, on Saturday, February 2, 2002.)
Motion carried unanimously by the four members present for this meeting.
None of the other five (5) who applied passed the examination. Mr.
Wright made a motion, which was seconded by Mr. Duck, not to issue Certificates
of Qualification to these twelve applicants until they pass the examination.
Motion carried unanimously by the four members present for this meeting.
Mr. Duck presented a letter from Rick A. Perez, Hammerhead Carpentry
Co. Mr. Perez was requesting that he be allowed to pay three years plus the
current year to reinstate his Certificate of Qualification, which he had failed
to renew since 1998. Mr. Duck reminded the Board Members that the Board has a
policy of allowing a person to catch up two prior years plus the current year.
Mr. Wright made a motion, which was seconded by Ms. Shulman, to stick to the
policy established and not reinstate Mr. Perez=s Certificate. He will be asked
to take the examination again in order to be qualified. Motion carried
unanimously by the four members present for this meeting.

The Minutes of the Monthly Meeting, which was held on December 6,
2001, were approved as presented.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the
meeting adjourned at 11:38 A. M.
