Subject Septic Tanks
Description Have the staff to go back and check to see what are the State's
requirements as it relates to septic tanks.

Response The Columbus Health Department regulates septic tanks under state
law. According to the Health Department they do not permit any usage of septic
tanks on anything less than a one acre lot. All of this depends upon
percolation, topography, water sources, etc.
Under the city's subdivision regulations, septic tanks are allowed on 15,000
square foot lots where there is no public sewer, but public water is
available. Approval though is still required by the subdivision ordinance to
"consult the Columbus Health Department before establishing a lot size an
designing a subdivision for any area within Columbus, Georgia".
