The Columbus, Georgia, Board of Tax Assessors met Wednesday, August 21, 2002,

at 2:00PM with Chairman Beatrice Breaux, Assessors Richard Stallings, Ann

Grantham and William Braxton present. Also present was Chief Appraiser Martin

J. Land. Assessor Lawton Grantham was absent.



Assessor Richard Stallings made a motion to approve Minutes #32-00, Assessor

Ann Grantham. second the motion, motion carried unanimously.



The Board approved assessment corrections for real estate.



The Board reviewed the information furnished by Mr. Barnhardt regarding account

# 05888801 showing the boat was registered in Alabama. Assessor William Braxton

made a motion to remove the assessment for the year 2001, Assessor Ann Grantham

second the motion, motion carried. The Board also took no action on the request

to refund taxes for 2000.



Met with Mr. Washington representing Mrs. Washington regarding Signature Plus

(Account # 05630901). Mr. Washington said she went out of business in July 2001

and converted the assets to personal use. Assessor Ann Grantham made a motion

to remove the assessment for the year 2002, Assessor Richard Stallings second

the motion, motion carried.



Mr. Phillips had an appointment with the Board of Tax Assessors, but did not

appear (Personal Property Account # B0900801).



Met with Ms. Gary regarding her personal property account # 5835101. Ms. Gary

said she went out of business after one year but did not know that she had to

close her business license. She said she went out of business in February 1999

and moved the property to Alabama. Assessor Richard Stallings made a motion to

remove the assessment for the years 2000, 2001 and 2002. Assessor Ann Grantham

second the motion, motion carried.



Met with Mr. Lewis representing the Georgia Baptist Children?s Home and Family

Ministries Inc. regarding a request for non-taxability for property located at

2700 1st Ave (Parcel ID 007 010 003). Mr. Lewis said they are receiving funds

from the State for support of the children on a per diem basis. He said the

children placed in this home are foster children who are in custody of Family

&Children Services or Juvenile Court. He said they purchased the property from

the Columbus Baptist Association and they also receive contributions from

churches and private citizens. Mr. Lewis said

families pay based on what they can afford. The Board requested Mr. Lewis to

furnish a form requesting non-taxability, a copy of the article of the

incorporation and a copy of the charter. The Board delayed action until the

requested documents are furnished and a field check is completed.



Met with Residential Division Chief Bob O?Brien, reviewed and approved the
