Naming the softball field within the South Commons Complex, the ?R.G.

Jones Field?.

WHEREAS, R. G. Jones was a member of the ASA Softball Hall of Fame; and,



WHEREAS, R. G. Jones was also one of Georgia?s 7 Charter Softball

Commissioners some fifty years ago; and,



WHEREAS, R. G. Jones played professional baseball for six years in the St.

Louis Cardinals and St. Louis Browns organization; and,



WHEREAS, R. G. Jones was the first person in the Chattahoochee Valley to

form an actual softball league; and,



WHEREAS, R. G. Jones served 39 years with the City?s Recreation

Department; and,



NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:



We hereby designate the softball field within the South Commons Complex,

to be named, ?R. G. Jones Field?, and authorize the appropriate marker bearing

this name.



Let a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the members of the Jones

Family.

Introduced at a regular meeting of the Council of Columbus, Georgia held

on the 11th day of March 2003 and adopted at said meeting by the affirmative

vote of members of said Council.
