A RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, the Fraternal Order of Police Auxiliary sponsored the Peace Officers

Memorial Service on May 15, 2003 in Columbus;



WHEREAS, the Fraternal Order of Police Auxiliary is a support organization for

local law enforcement officers and is the only national support organization of

its kind;



WHEREAS, the Auxiliary was formed in 1920, when a group of women in Pittsburgh,

Pennsylvania gathered to discuss issues concerning husbands in law enforcement;



WHEREAS, in 1941, Katherine M. Milton became the first national president of

the Ladies Auxiliary and since then, the Auxiliary has grown to over 2,000

members with 140 chapters in 25 states;



WHEREAS, the local Auxiliary sent three representatives to the National Peace

Officers Memorial Service held on May 15, 2003 in Washington, D.C. (Amy Spear,

Charlotte Scoggins and Moni Hawk) and annually sponsors the Peace Officers

Memorial Service in Columbus.



NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:



We hereby commend the members of the Fraternal Order of Police Auxiliary

including Penny Allen, Brenda Gilkey, Carol Griffis, Cathy Swiney, Lynn

McMichael, Betty Richardson, Debra East, Penny Slouchick, Rita Snell, Jodi

Winebrenner and Chairman Kim Danford for their organization of the Peace

Officers Memorial Service held on May 15, 2003 in Columbus. Let a copy of this

resolution be forwarded to the above-named participants.

Introduced at a regular meeting of the Council of Columbus, Georgia held on the

3rd day of June, 2003, and adopted at said meeting by the affirmative vote of
