The Board of Elections and Registration board meeting was held June 6, 2002 at
2:00 p.m.

The Chairperson, Jan Dickens called the board meeting to order.
The Chairperson asked the board?s permission for the agenda to be reversed to
allow two of the precinct managers to address the board before proceeding with
the board?s business. Permission granted.
Mary Edwards, precinct manager of the Beallwood precinct and Sybil Palmer,
precinct manager of Morningside addressed the Board concerning the pay of the
managers.
The minutes of the May Board meeting was approved.
Nancy told the Board that Raymond Shepherd has transferred to the Coroner?s
Office. She is in the process of interviewing for a replacement for the
positon that was vacated.
The Justice Department has approved the relocation of the different precincts
that were submitted for their approval. A motion was made to move the
Brookstone precinct to Wynnbrook Baptist Church. Motion seconded, vote
unanimous. A complaint was received from a registered voter about the traffic
situation at the new Wynnbrook Precinct. Nancy will ask for a sheriff?s deputy
to assist with the traffic flow during the rush hour traffic.
A synopsis was given to each board member on the meeting that was held in
Albany about the new voting equipment.
The new voting equipment will be delivered between June 1st and July 31st.
Nancy has secured warehouse storage on the 2nd floor of the West Wing until we
finish with the September run-off, if one is necessary. The equipment will be
moved to the office on the Ground Floor. Nancy told the board that were are
getting 402 new voting machines. We will be receiving $10,000 in the form of a
grant to be used in educating the public on the new voting equipment. She
asked the board for suggestions on how to best utilize these funds.
The Secretary of State will be mailing out precinct cards to each registered
voter letting them know what district they are currently assigned to because of
the reapportionment process.
The board members were given a copy of the campaign packet that will be given
to each candidate who qualifies for office. Qualifying will begin on June 19th
at 9:00 a.m. and will end at noon on June 21st.
Nancy told the board that the managers and workers in the split precincts will
be attending the same training session, and the precincts that are not spilt
will have other dates to choose.
The Board was told that 5 precinct managers are needed. Ways was discussed as
to staffing these precincts.
The Board was advised that August 20th would be the second day of school and
that school would be in session. School will also be in session on September
10th in the event of a runoff.
Since the July Board meeting was scheduled for July 4th and it is Independence
Day, the Board voted to meet Monday, July 8th at 12:00 noon at the Public
Safety Complex. After the meeting, the Board will attend the training session
for pollworkers.
The Board received letters of approval from the U.S. Justice Department on the
school board redistricting and the precinct changes that were submitted.
The Board voted unanimously to approve the pay of managers at $165
Being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
