The term of office of Ms. Beatrice Grant, who serves as the resident

member on the Housing Authority of Columbus will expire on November 16, 2004.

Ms. Grant was first appointed to the

board on November 2, 1999 by Mayor Bobby Peters. She was nominated and

confirmed for

a second term of office on November 21, 2000.



Ms. Grant has served for a total of five years on this board and is not

eligible to succeed herself.



I am hereby advising you, Mayor Poydasheff, that Ms. Grant?s current term

of office will expire on November 16, 2004; and as you know, members of this

board are appointed exclusively by you.

Charge/Mission

This board is responsible for all public housing projects. It is also, in

conjunction with the Department of Community Development, responsible for the

various urban renewal projects. It has six (6) members, all of which are

appointed exclusively by the Mayor. (Ga. Laws, 1937, Page 210 and Columbus

Charter, Sec. 4-620) (Increased by one member approved by Res. No. 444-99

pursuant to O.C.G.A. Sec. 8-3-50 appoint a Resident Advisory Board Member)

(Ga. L. 1937, Page 210), as amended.



CHARTER REFERENCE: Section 4-620 for reference to this specific board and

Section 4-103 for General Provisions Concerning Boards, Commissions and

Authorities.



COLUMBUS CODE REFERENCE: Sec. 2-1, 2-2.01, 2-3.02 and 2-3.1 for general

provision relating to all Boards, Commissions, Authorities and Committees.



COMPOSTION OF BOARD: This board shall consist of six members. (GA. L. 1937,

page 210), Resolution number 444-99 Pursuant to O.C.G.A. ?8-3-50 appointing a

Resident Advisory Board Member and Columbus Charter Sec. 4-620)



QUALIFICATION OF MEMBERS: No Commissioner of this Authority may be an officer

or employee of the Columbus Consolidated Government (GA. L. 1937, Page 217, Sec

5) and Sec 2-3-02 (a) Col. Coded for general qualifications for all boards.



MEMBERS APPOINTED BY: The Mayor. Prior to 1981, all members were nominated by

the Mayor and confirmed by the Council in resolution form. By memorandum of May

11, 981 from the then City Attorney to the then Mayor, the Mayor?s nomination

need not be confirmed by the Council.



TERMS OF OFFICE: Five years. (Ga. L. 1937, Page 217, Sec. 5)



POWERS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBLITIES: See GA. L. 1937, Pages 210 through 230.



COMPENSATION: A Commissioner shall receive no compensation, for his service,

but shall be entitled to the necessary expenses, including traveling expenses

incurred in the discharge of his duties. (Ga. L. 1937, Page 217, Sec. 5)



SUCCESSION OF MEMBERS: See Columbus Code, Section 2-1, for general provisions

applying to all Boards, Commissions, and Authorities.
