Columbus has always been at the forefront of promoting its? assets of being an

outstanding venue for major athletic sports ? both amateur and professional.

It was no surprise, when the organizers for what is sure to become America?s

most prestigious international, professional bicycle race ? Tour de Georgia,

that Columbus was on the list of Georgia cities chosen to be a host for the

inaugural event.

The idea, born out of the governor?s office and the Georgia Department of

Industry Trade and Tourism has been designed to promote tourism and economic

development throughout Georgia showcasing people, beauty and variety of

attractions Georgia has to offer. By attracting fans and media coverage, the

event will have a positive contribution to our economy.

COMING TO OUR COMMUNITY ONE DAY ONLY! THURSDAY, APRIL 24, 2003.

Columbus will be a staged finish with live broadcast feeds, a life-style expo

promoting cancer awareness, along with a free preview opening of Riverfest

Weekend, including entertainment by ?Cornbread? and fireworks.

Once the 18 teams of Olympic level cyclists representing 15 nations and

competing for $200,000 in cash prizes crosses into our city, they will pass

through a city noted for its hospitality. We are asking that you consider

promoting this event to your neighbors and families to expose these visitors to

the reasons we have been able to attract world class sporting events like the

Olympics. We hope you will endorse this event and show your support.

This event will have a positive influence on our children (through the Safe

Kids programs planned for schools, including helmet giveaways), as well as

giving us all the opportunity to create a high-impact event for Georgia and

Columbus.

If you want to join in this celebration, call me at 706-322-1613 to find out
