The Board of Elections and Registrations board meeting was held November 1,

2001 at 2:00 p.m.

Members present: Jan Dickens, Chairperson

Margaret Jenkins

Eleanor White

Ken Barfield

Walter J. Wright, Jr.

The Chairperson, Jan Dickens called the meeting to order. A motion was made

and seconded to accept the minutes of the October board meeting. Vote was

unanimous.

NEW BUSINESS:

A letter will be addressed to the sheriff about opening the doors to the west

wing during elections in order to get the voting equipment to the different

precincts, and more handicap parking needs to be made available for the public.

Nancy briefed the board on the District Commission meeting. The school board

does not want their district lines to be tied with the council district lines.

Nancy feels that the board should express the opinion of the election board

about keeping the school board and council district lines the same for reason

of less confusion and less cost. Ken Barfield made a motion to address a letter

to Mr. Jim Humes expressing that if there is any extra expense to an election,

because of the difference in the school board district lines and the council

lines, it would be incurred by the school board. Will ask for a reply before

the next board meeting.

OLD BUSINESS:

Precinct Location: Upon approval from Council, the Civic Center will be used

as a super precinct. Ken Barfield suggested looking at the South Columbus

Super Center for precincts, Spencer, Eddy, Courthouse and Muscogee. He asked

that Nancy contact the Secretary of State?s Office on the issue of not having a

precinct within the Government Center.

Poll Worker Recruitment: Bell South Pioneers is the only organization that has

asked to adopt a precinct.

Poll Worker Compensation: The pay scale of the poll worker clerks, assistant

managers and managers will be decided at the December board meeting.

Ken expressed a concern that the office does not have the new maps showing the

Congressional and House Districts.

Being no business to discuss, a motion was made and seconded to adjourn the

meeting. Vote was unanimous.
