My commitment to doing my part to make Columbus a better place to live, work
and enhance a pleasant environment of leisure time is why I wish to become a
member of the Board of Historic & Architectural Review.
I?ve been associated with this community ever since I was about ten years of
age. I, along with my other siblings boarded the train from Mississippi to
Columbus to spend many summers of fun and excitement with our grandparents who
resided downtown on Third Avenue. Those childhood memories are still a part of
me, because they?ve done so much to shape the kind of lifestyle I enjoy today.
I became a permanent resident in 1964, after being hired as a teacher of
English for the school system. I taught for seventeen years and served in the
public library system for twenty-one years.
I?ve been retired since 1999, but I still devote much of my time involved in
many community activities and several organizations. Some of them are:
Columbus Museum Docent Program; University of Georgia Extension
Program/Muscogee County?s Master Gardener Program; Friends of the Library, The
Library Board; American Association of University Women; Columbus League of
Women Voters; Historic Columbus Foundation; Columbus Community Center, Delta
Sigma Theta Sorority; First African Baptist Church;
Thank You.
