A RESOLUTION
No.
WHEREAS, on January 6, 2002, members of Columbus-area churches were involved in
an accident on Interstate 77 near the Virginia-North Carolina state line while
returning from a ski trip sponsored by St. Paul United Methodist Church;
WHEREAS, several teenagers were rushed to hospitals in both Galax, Virginia and
Winston-Salem, North Carolina;
WHEREAS, Synovus Financial Corp. arranged for corporate aircraft to fly parents
of injured teenagers and other family members from Columbus to airports in
Greensboro and Winston-Salem and to return injured boys and family members to
Columbus;
WHEREAS, these acts of corporate generosity deserve special recognition from
this Council.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:
We hereby commend Ms. Elizabeth R. James, Vice-Chairman of Synovus Financial
Corp. and Synovus for their generous donation of corporate aircraft used to
transport injured teenagers and family members to and from Columbus. Let a
copy of this resolution be forwarded to Ms. Elizabeth R. James at Synovus
Financial Corp.
