MINUTES # 19-05



The Columbus, Georgia, Board of Tax Assessors met Wednesday, May 11, 2005, at

2:00PM with Chairman Lawton Grantham, Assessors Richard Stallings, Ann

Grantham, and Pat Hunter present. Also present was Chief Appraiser Martin J.

Land. Assessor William Braxton was absent.



Assessor Pat Hunter made a motion to approve Minutes # 18-05, Assessor Ann

Grantham seconded the motion, motion carried unanimously.



Met with Mr. Boles regarding the 2004 valuation of his property located at

3456 Cathryn Drive (Parcel ID 068 009 001). Mr. Boles said he purchased the

property on Cathryn Drive in the year 2003 for $172,000 and it is appraised for

$285,000. He said he did not know what the property was appraised for when he

bought it that is the reason he did not make a return for 2004. He said he

discovered the property was appraised for $285,000, when he received his tax

bill in October of 2004 and it was too late to make a return for 2004. He said

he made a tax return for the year 2005. Mr. Boles said he also had an issue

with his homestead exemption. The Board told him to resolve the homestead issue

with the Tax Commissioner. The Board also advised him the tax return for 2005

will be reviewed and if they changed the returned value he will receive an

Official Tax Notice and will have the right to appeal that value. The Board did

not take any action on the 2004 value.



Mr. and Mrs. Holland had an appointment with the Board of Tax Assessors, but

did not appear

(068 028 019).
