RESOLUTION
NO.
WHEREAS, Dr. Clarence C. Butler, beloved Columbus physician and one of the
founders of St. Francis Hospital, died on January 5, 2004 at the age of 85;
WHEREAS, at St. Francis, Dr. Butler worked as a physician, administrator and
board member for more than half a century;
WHEREAS, he was honored last summer when an expansion at St. Francis which
houses a new emergency care center and surgical suite was named after him;
WHEREAS, Dr. Butler graduated from Vanderbilt University, received his medical
degree from Duke University School of Medicine, and practiced internal medicine
and cardiology for more than forty years, retiring in 1983;
WHEREAS, Dr. Butler was an avid outdooorsman and hunter, an active supporter of
the St. Francis Hospital Foundation and a member of St. Luke United Methodist
Church;
WHEREAS, he is survived by his wife Sarah Turner Butler, two daughters, Betsy
Ramsey and Chris Ball, son Steve Butler, eight grandchildren and four
great-grandchildren.
NOW, THEREFORE THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:
We hereby convey our sincere condolences and deepest sympathy to the family of
Dr. Clarence C. Butler. His dedicated service to his patients, St. Francis
Hospital, and the Columbus community will long be remembered. Let a copy of
this resolution be forwarded to the family of Dr. Clarence C. Butler.
