A RESOLUTION
No.
WHEREAS, students at Blanchard Elementary School recently journeyed to
Washington, D.C. to display a 39-foot patchwork flag they made after the
September 11, 2001 attacks on America;
WHEREAS, these students visited the Pentagon, the White House and the
Smithsonian Institute as part of their flag tour;
WHEREAS, the Blanchard students participated in a Flag Day ceremony on June 14,
2002 at the Pentagon and their flag served as a background for various speakers;
WHEREAS, the trip was spearheaded by Michelle Boyd, mother of second-grader
Handley Boyd and was a combined educational experience and vacation for the
students and their families;
WHEREAS, about 270 people from Columbus traveled to Washington, D.C. for this
historic event.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:
We hereby commend and congratulate students at Blanchard Elementary School and
Principal Rochelle Jones for their creativity in producing a 39-foot patchwork
flag and we further commend Michelle Boyd for her coordination of the Flag Day
trip to Washington, D.C. They have inspired the entire Columbus community and
we wish them every success in the future. Let a copy of this resolution be
forwarded to Blanchard Elementary School Principal Rochelle Jones and Michelle
Boyd.
