A RESOLUTION
NO.
WHEREAS, Robert G. Jones, Jr. has been recently selected as a 2002 inductee to
the Chattahoochee Valley Sports Hall of Fame;
WHEREAS, he was a professional baseball player and Field Manager in the St.
Louis Browns organization which later became the Baltimore Orioles;
WHEREAS, he was a two-sport All-State star at Columbus Industrial High School
and played football and basketball at Norman Junior College;
WHEREAS, he was a player, coach and Commissioner of the Third District
Amateur Softball Association for 33 years, Vice President of the Georgia ASA
and a charter member of the Georgia Amateur Softball Hall of Fame;
WHEREAS, Mr. Jones also organized the first Women's Softball League in
Columbus, the Softball Umpire's Association and the Senior Men's Softball
League during 39 years of service with the Columbus Parks and Recreation
Department.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:
We hereby commend and congratulate Mr. Robert G. Jones, Jr. upon his selection
as a 2002 inductee to the Chattahoochee Valley Sports Hall of Fame and we wish
him every success in the future. Let a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to
Mr. Robert G. Jones, Jr.

the 12th day of March, 2002, and adopted at said meeting by the affirmative
