Columbus, Georgia

WHEREAS, Through a coordinated effort a group of Columbus citizens has financed

and constructed a playground for the children of Bistri?a, Columbus? esteemed

sister city in Rom?nia,



WHEREAS, Tom and Arlene Beal of Columbus brought their vision of a playground

for the children of Bistri?a to fellow-members of Edgewood Baptist Church and

to other interested Columbus citizens, and provided strong leadership

throughout the project,



WHEREAS, CIRCLE?the Commission on International Relations?approved the project

and Columbus Rotary clubs raised approximately $85,000 among their members and

other Columbus citizens to fund building of the playground in Bistri?a,



WHEREAS, Jim Rosine of Rockford, Illinois and his international organization,

Kids Around the World, supervised the project and coordinated construction of

the playground,



WHEREAS, Construction of the playground was accomplished in one week by about

30 Columbus citizens including Rotarians and representatives of Edgewood

Baptist Church, along with five representatives of Kids Around the World, two

people from Britain and several Bistri?a Baptists and Rotarians,



WHEREAS, Mayor Bob Poydasheff and Mayor Pro Tem Jack Rodgers led a Columbus

delegation to Bistri?a and participated in the opening and dedication of the

playground on May 9, 2003.



NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:



THAT, We commend and thank all Columbus people who were involved in this

worthy sister-city project and extend best wishes to our sister city, Bistri?a,

in hope that many, many children will benefit from the playground.

Introduced at a regular meeting of the Council of Columbus, Georgia held on the

20th day of May, 2003, and adopted at said meeting by the affirmative vote of

ten-- members of said Council.
