SUBJECT: Animal & Fowl Ordinance
INITIATED BY: Department of Public Services, Special Enforcement Division
Recommendation: Amend Chapter 5 of the Columbus Code, Animal and Fowl
Ordinance, by adding definition, requiring shelters for dogs, regulating
transport and fencing for domesticated animals; and for other purposes.
Background: The Animal Control Advisory Board is recommending the Animal
and Fowl Ordinance be amended to ensure animals in Columbus, Georgia are
provided the best possible living conditions as well as address current animal
issues that have taken the forefront in animal welfare. Revising some portions
of this ordinance will allow Animal Control Officers the authority to take
legal action against violators of violations not addressed in the current
ordinance.
Analysis: The current Animal and Fowl Ordinance hasn't been revised or amended
since it's inception. There are various animal issues needing to be addressed
in a legal manner to ensure animals are provided adequate living conditions in
Columbus, Georgia.
